SSL CERTIFICATES
SSL Certificates Explained
SSL (Secure Socket Layer) is a global standard to ensure secure data transfers between web servers and browsers. This protocol usually uses a third party, a Certificate Authority, to identify your website and customers. Without SSL all computers the data passes through would be able to view confidential information like credit card details, social security numbers and so forth. SSL activates an encryption of this data so you and your clients can feel safe. We make a difference between two kinds of SSL Certificates, Shared and Private.
Shared SSL Certificate
With a Shared SSL Certificate you will use a We Care Hosting domain. When your customers connect to a SSL protected page on your website they might get a browser warning, the SSL Certificate is insecure and if they would like to continue anyway or close the page. This warning appears because the Shared SSL certificate does not match your domain. Of course you know the certificate is secure but your customers do not. We only offer Shared SSL with our Budget Hosting for a one time setup fee of € 10 ,-.
Private SSL Certificate
A Private SSL Certificate will use your domain and will not cause any warning messages. Private SSL is preferred for e-commerce websites because a SSL warning can make your customers uncomfortable with submitting their credit card information on your website. We sell Private SSL Certificates from € 25 ,- per year. If you want us to install your SSL Certificate we charge a one time € 50 ,- setup fee. To use a Private SSL Certificate you also need a dedicated IP.
